For PKU international students who already have an off-campus internship offer and need the internship endorsement added to a study-type residence permit.

Always check the official PKU International Students Division page first. The source page is dated 2023-04-12, and immigration procedures can change.

Who Can Apply

You should generally meet all of these conditions:

  • You are a formally registered, full-time PKU international student.
  • You have good conduct and no school disciplinary record or Chinese legal penalty.
  • Your academics are in good standing:
    • undergraduates: no failed required major courses, and ranking in the top 50% of international students in the same grade
    • graduate students: no failed courses
  • You already hold a valid study-type residence permit.
  • You already have an internship offer from a company or organization.

Process

  1. Get the internship offer or qualification from the company or organization.
  2. Ask the internship unit to issue proof or an agreement that clearly states the internship time, location, and content.
  3. Get the internship unit seal on the internship proof or agreement and on the visa/residence permit application form.
  4. Fill in the PKU internship endorsement application form.
  5. Submit the materials to your department for review.
  6. After department approval, submit the materials to the International Student Office.
  7. Wait for the International Student Office review. PKU says this review usually takes about 5 working days.
  8. After approval, take all required materials to the Beijing Exit-Entry Administration to apply for the residence permit internship endorsement.

Do not start the internship until the endorsement has been added to your residence permit.

Timing And Rules

  • Public security processing usually takes 8 to 15 working days.
  • Each endorsement should not exceed 6 months.
  • The endorsement cannot extend beyond the validity of your study-type residence permit.
  • Do not alter or correct the visa/residence permit application form after filling it in.
  • If you change internship units, you must apply for a new internship endorsement.
  • If the internship is outside Beijing, both the PKU consent letter and the company consent letter should include the detailed office address.
  • If your student status changes during the internship, such as suspension or leave from school, follow PKU’s residence permit cancellation requirements.
  • PKU may cancel internship eligibility if attendance drops, grades decline, school rules are violated, or Chinese law is violated.

Practical rule: start the paperwork early. The school review plus public security processing can easily take several weeks.
